Stranraer 4 - 1 Dunfermline: Stranraer blow champions Dunfermline away

Posted Sunday, April 17, 2016 by PA

Stranraer consolidated fourth spot in Ladbrokes Scottish League One with a thumping 4-1 win against champions Dunfermline.

The home side had the first chance of the game when a corner from Willie Gibson was headed inches over the crossbar by Scott Robertson.

Gibson fired over when well placed and Craig Malcolm was not too far away with a headed effort as the Stranraer continued their bright start.

But it was champions Dunfermline who took the lead in the 35th minute when Brad McKay made the most of some poor defending to slot in from a corner.

Stranraer equalised early in the second half as goalkeeper David Hutton blocked a first shot but Mark McGuigan followed up to tap in.

Craig Pettigrew saw a fierce effort tipped over by Hutton before Stranraer did take the lead through Malcolm's simple header from a corner.

Andy Stirling made it 3-1 to the home side with a stunning curling strike and Malcolm's second - a neat turn and shot - sealed the points.
