Dale Hilson's late header spared Queen of the South's blushes and earned a 2-2 draw against rock-bottom Alloa in the Scottish Championship.

Alloa, already relegated to League One, took the lead eight minutes before half-time from the penalty spot after Jordan Marshall had fouled Mitch Megginson, with Iain Flannigan stroking home from 12 yards.

Queen of the South levelled with a penalty of their own midway through the second half as Derek Lyle fired home from the spot after Iain Russell was fouled.

Alloa, looking to finish the season with pride, restored their lead when Conor McManus fired home from the edge of the penalty area with 14 minutes to go.

But Hilson headed home an 86th-minute leveller from Mark Millar's corner.
