Burton Albion FC 0 - 0 Barnsley: Burton and Barnsley share points in stalemate
Posted Sunday, April 17, 2016 by PA
A goalless draw did little to satisfy the promotion ambitions of both Burton and Barnsley in an entertaining encounter at the Pirelli Stadium.
Burton remain winless in five games but were close to snatching all three points when Mark Duffy's angled shot was blocked at point-blank range by Barnsley goalkeeper Adam Davies.
The Reds stopper also did well to claw away a curling effort beneath his crossbar from the on-loan Birmingham winger inside the last five minutes.
Chasing a play-off place, Barnsley had the better of the first half with strikers Sam Winnall and Ivan Toney both seeing efforts go over the crossbar in a fast-paced first half that saw plenty of end-to-end action.
Burton responded well after half-time and looked the more likely to break the deadlock as the game wore on.
Midfielder Calum Butcher drilled a low effort inches wide of the post after excellent work from Stuart Beavon but Winnall spurned a chance for Barnsley at the death hooking over the crossbar from inside the six-yard box.
