At this stage of the season, the four-point gap can be regarded as relatively significant. The Canaries are perched just above the relegation zone in 17th position, while the Black Cats are 18th.

A draw wouldn't be regarded as a disaster for Alex Neil's side since they'd retain their place even if the Wearsiders manage to take three points from their game in hand. But there's no question that the Norfolk outfit will play for the win.

Sam Allardyce's team, on the other hand, face pressure from both ends. Newcastle are breathing down their necks with a mere two points separating the two north-east rivals.

Simply put, this is a must-win clash for Sunderland. A fact that their manager is very aware of, having stated on Friday that the manner in which they achieve this is not a concern for him. A win is a win and if the quality of the football that results in it plays no part in his tactics for the match.

The Canaries earned seven points from three macthes before their loss to Crystal Palace last Saturday, while the Black Cats have only taken two from their last six outings, making the home team favourites by a significant margin.

Team news is that both Russell Martin and Timm Klose could be avaiable for Norwich, with the latter likely to face a late fitness test.

The visitors welcome back striker Duncan Watmore, who has recovered from the ankle injury he sustained two months ago.
