Crewe Alexandra vs Scunthorpe United - Nothing but pride to play for for Crewe

Posted Friday, April 15, 2016 by PA

Crewe will be looking to restore some pride when they host Scunthorpe following their relegation from Sky Bet League One last weekend.

The 3-0 defeat to local rivals Port Vale made it mathematically impossible for the Alex to avoid the drop, but there are still five games left for Steve Davis' side.

Leading scorer Brad Inman has been out with an ankle injury but is close to a return, while Callum Saunders is still sidelined by a knee injury.

Crewe are rooted to the bottom of the table, having lost their last six consecutive matches.

Scunthorpe goalkeeper Luke Daniels will return to contention after missing out last week due to a calf injury.

Joe Anyon stepped in and made several fine saves in the 1-0 win against Burton and boss Graham Alexander must now decide whether to recall Daniels.

Alexander has no new injury concerns but Scott Wiseman, who has had surgery to remove a bone growth, and Jim O'Brien (groin) are both out for the rest of the season.

Midfielder Stephen Dawson (knee) stepped off the bench last week and is hoping to play a bigger role as the Iron chase their third win in four matches.
