Redknapp: Norwich favourites to survive

Harry Redknapp feels that Norwich knew they would be fighting for their lives from day one of the season, giving them the edge in the relegation battle.

Of the three clubs who will be fighting the relegation battle over the next five weeks, Norwich have the upper hand due to their expectations for the season, says Harry Redknapp.

“Norwich are marginal favourites to get out of it, but you couldn’t say that with any certainty. In contrast to the others, they always knew they’d be down at the bottom so have been scrapping for their lives since the opening day. If they go down it won’t be for a lack of fight,” he wrote in his column for The Telegraph.

The Canaries currnetly find themselves just above the relegation zone, 4 points ahead of their closest rivals, Sunderland, with 5 matches to be played.

Speaking about the future of the clubs that will be relegated at the end of the season, Redknapp says he doubts they will remain in the Championship for long.

“I think whichever two of Norwich, Sunderland or Newcastle join them (Aston Villa) in the Championship will have a very good chance of promotion,” he said. “It’s far too tight to call down at the bottom, but they all have the makings of squads that can compete if they do go down.”

This coming Saturday, all eyes will be on a fixture that is very likely to determine Norwich’s fate, as they host Sunderland in a relegation six-pointer at Carrow Road.
