Newport County 0 - 1 Cambridge United: James Dunne strike enough for Cambridge at Newport

James Dunne's first league goal for Cambridge earned his side a deserved 1-0 win at Newport.

Dunne raced onto Luke Berry's pass before beating goalkeeper Joe Day with a shot from a tight angle.

The win was the U's first away success in Sky Bet League Two since January and inflicted a fifth straight defeat on Newport.

It was also a fourth game in a row without a goal for the Exiles, who started the brighter at Rodney Parade.

Yet Cambridge had the better chances of the opening 45 minutes as centre-backs Josh Coulson and Leon Legge both had shots saved.

They continued to dominate in the second half and striker Jimmy Spencer hit a post with a curling effort.

However, Dunne broke the deadlock with a cool finish in the 68th minute.

Newport's best chance of the game came when Lenell John-Lewis received a pinpoint through ball from midfielder Medy Elito but the forward's finish sailed over the crossbar.

United held on for the win as County struggled to threaten Will Norris in the Cambridge goal.
