Port Vale vs Crewe Alexandra - Port Vale midfielder Michael O'Connor faces fitness fight
Posted Friday, April 08, 2016 by PA
Port Vale midfielder Michael O'Connor will be given until the last moment to prove his fitness to face Crewe, who could be relegated on Saturday.
O'Connor missed the 4-2 defeat at Chesterfield with a thigh injury after coming off in the Easter Monday loss against Barnsley.
Vale are also without Matthew Kennedy after the winger returned to parent club Cardiff.
He played 12 times after joining in January but had struggled to break into the Vale squad recently.
Crewe will hope that leading scorer Brad Inman can make a surprise return to the team as Alex fight for their Sky Bet League One survival.
The midfielder missed the defeat to Peterborough with an ankle injury, with the initial diagnosis being a three-week absence. However, Inman, who has scored nine goals this season, is responding well to treatment and Alex first-team coach James Collins has not ruled out the possibility of him being involved.
Collins also reckons goalkeeper Ben Garratt is the only player guaranteed a starting place against Vale following the dismal display in the 3-0 defeat at Posh, which has left Crewe on the brink of relegation. The Alex could go down depending on what happens in the games involving Fleetwood, Blackpool and Oldham.
Lauri Dalla Valle is nursing a knock from last weekend and is a doubt while Callum Saunders is still sidelined by a knee injury.
