Queen of South 2 - 2 Falkirk: Queen of the South strike back to leave Falkirk frustrated

Posted Sunday, April 03, 2016 by PA

Two late goals denied Falkirk from closing the gap on league leaders Rangers as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Queen of the South.

With Rangers denied the Scottish Championship title by a last-gasp equaliser against Raith Rovers, Falkirk could have closed the gap to 12 points but for Iain Russell's late strike.

Blair Alston had opened the scoring for the Bairns on the brink of half-time with his 10th league goal of the season, heading an Aaron Muirhead cross into the bottom corner.

John Baird netted his 18th of the season shortly after the break to secure what should have been three points, until Derek Lyle pulled a goal back in the 73rd minute with a neat turn and finish.

Russell was on hand to snatch a point for the hosts in extra time, sliding coolly under the onrushing Danny Rogers to frustrate Falkirk.
