As Juventus continue their search for a new defender, their attention has turned to Atletico Madrid’s Jose Gimenez.
The Bianconeri have been in the market for a new centre-back to provide competition for the current trio of Giorgio Chiellini, Leonardo Bonucci and Andrea Barzagli and believe that Uruguay international fits the bill.
Gimenez has emerged as a transfer target for Massimiliano Allegri’s side, but a deal could prove difficult. A buyout clause of €65 million may put Juve off a move, whilst Atletico’s cross-city rivals Real Madrid are the favourites to pull off a deal, according to Marca.
At only 21, Gimenez would certainly be an investment for the long-term. The Toledo-native has already shown his importance to Atletico, making 28 appearances in all competitions for the second-placed Colchoneros, who have also reached the Champions League quarter-finals.
Despite his relatively young age, the former Danubio man has already earned 21 caps for the Uruguayan national team and featured at the 2014 World Cup as La Celeste eliminated Italy in the group stage.
