Speculation has started to pick up pace at Liverpool in terms of potential transfer dealings and although the current campaign is far from done, there is now plenty of excitement surrounding the Reds.
Jurgen Klopp’s arrival at the club in October signalled Fenway Sports Group’s intentions and while the German tactician has so far failed to put the club on the road to glory, there is certainly plenty of optimism about the calibre of players the Reds could now lure to Anfield.
And that is evident this week with rumours of a couple of big deals set for the summer. With that in mind, here’s a round-up of everything surrounding the Reds this Wednesday morning.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes he is in pole position to land Bayern Munich’s attacking midfielder Mario Gotze. Despite widespread interest in the 23-year-old from a number of clubs, Klopp is confident his relationship with the Borussia Dortmund academy graduate will see him land the transfer. Gotze has created 10 chances in the Bundesliga this season. (Mirror)
Furthermore, reports also suggest that Gotze is already thinking of a move to Liverpool to work alongside Klopp once again. Klopp brought the midfielder through the academy during their time together at Dortmund and it seems the Bayern Munich man is already pondering life at Anfield. Gotze boasts an 89% pass accuracy in the Bundesliga this season. (Daily Express)
To cement things even further, Gotze has made it clear to a close circle of friends that he wants to play under Klopp once again. With the rumours picking up even further, it seems that Liverpool are currently clear favourites to sign a highly-rated Gotze. (Daily Star)
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is not happy with Simon Mignolet and is considering a potential move for Manchester United’s Victor Valdes. Valdes has fallen out with Louis van Gaal and that led to him moving to Standard Liege on loan, but it has now emerged that he wants to return to the Premier League. Mignolet averages 1.32 saves per game in the Premier League this season and has made the joint-most defensive errors of any player in the top flight (5). (Don Balon)
Liverpool are still in the hunt for Fenerbahce defender Caner Erkin despite reports that Inter Milan had wrapped up a deal, with rivals Everton are also keen. The 27-year-old’s current contract runs out in the summer and Klopp is keen to provide some competition for Alberto Moreno down the left-hand side. Erkin has won 8/20 attempted tackles in the Turkish Super Lig this season. (Mundo Deportivo)
