Man Utd stun Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool by making £74m move for star striker

The Argentine, who has 31 goals to his name this season, has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool have all monitored his progress in recent months, along with United, as they seek to bolster their respective attacks in the summer.

But United are determined to beat their rivals to his signature, according to website Football Insider.

It's understood Higuain has a £74million release clause in his current contract but United could meet the asking price in their desperate attempt to sign a world-class striker.

The report claims Jose Mourinho, who is widely tipped to take over from Louis van Gaal at the end of the season, has identified Higuain as a priority signing.

Mourinho has reportedly signed a pre-contract agreement to take over the reins at Old Trafford.

The report states the Portuguese tactician also has Inter Milan's Mauro Icardi on his wishlist.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Renato Sanches are other talents that are understood to be on United's radar in the transfer window as they look to overhaul their squad.

Marcos Rojo is set to be sold in the summer with the club ready to listen to offers.
