Bury 0 - 1 Gillingham: Gills get back to winning ways at Bury

Gillingham gave their hopes of promotion from Sky Bet League One a shot in the arm with a 1-0 win at Bury.

The Gills had slipped to fourth after winning just one of their previous six games but took a 27th-minute lead through Luke Norris.

Bury were seven unbeaten at home and pushed for an equaliser but Gillingham held on for their first away win since Boxing Day.

The Shakers went closest early on as Danny Mayor, Ryan Lowe and Joe Riley all fired over from just outside the box.

But the visitors broke the deadlock when Josh Wright's 20-yard strike was blocked and Norris turned in the loose ball from close range.

Lowe then turned Riley's cross over but the Gills almost doubled their lead just after the break as Chris Neal tipped over a Ryan Jackson shot.

Dominic Samuel also went close for the visitors before Bury took charge, with a Chris Hussey free-kick cleared off the line.

Substitute Danny Rose was then denied by goalkeeper Stuart Nelson while John O'Sullivan blazed over as Gillingham hung on for a hard-fought victory.
