The Switzerland international, often deployed as a box-to-box or holding midfielder, has been touted as a transfer target for the Gunners who are set to say goodbye to a host of midfielders including Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini and Tomas Rosicky this summer.
According to German news outlet Sky Deutschland, Arsene Wenger met with Xhaka’s father to discuss the club’s interest in signing the midfielder.
The report claims that Arsenal are willing to pay €43m for the 23-year-old’s services after Mönchengladbac’s decision to sign Tobias Strobl from Hoffenheim as replacement for the player.
Xhaka is currently on international duty with his country, and when asked about the possibility of a move to the Premier League, he admitted it is very likely to happen.
''Everybody has a childhood dream & that’s my childhood dream [to move to the PL]. If my dream comes true, it remains to be seen.” Xhaka said.
