Stevenage Borough 2 - 3 Northampton Town: Holmes strike ideal for Northampton as they snatch dramatic win

Posted Sunday, March 20, 2016 by PA

Ricky Holmes' sensational winner completed a brilliant turnaround for Northampton as they came from two goals down to win 3-2 at Stevenage.

Goals either side of half-time from James Collins and John-Joe O'Toole had seen the Cobblers level things up after Luke Wilkinson followed his first goal for Stevenage with a swift second, while Boro defender Fraser Franks was shown a straight red with 11 minutes remaining.

Boro started brightly and deservedly took the lead after 11 minutes when Wilkinson headed home Dean Parrett's corner before the two combined again on the half hour.

But the home side were caught napping when Nicky Adams found Collins unmarked to head in from close range.

And after 51 minutes an unmarked O'Toole stabbed home a leveller for Northampton.

Franks saw red for bringing down Sam Hoskins when he was through on goal, but as stoppage-time ran down it looked as though Stevenage would hold on for a point.

Holmes had other ideas, though, and his spectacular shot from the edge of the box completed the turnaround.
