Wigan Athletic 1 - 0 Bradford AFC: Late Haris Vuckic goal gives Wigan narrow win over Bradford
Posted Sunday, March 20, 2016 by PA
Wigan bolstered their automatic promotion hopes with a 1-0 win over play-off chasing Bradford at the DW Stadium.
Ryan Colclough had the best of the early chances, hitting the post from 18 yards after a defence-splitting through ball from David Perkins on 10 minutes.
Wigan were well on top and thought they had taken a 36th-minute lead, but the offside flag ruled out Yanic Wildschut's instinctive close-range finish.
The visitors should have gone in front immediately after the interval, when Jamie Proctor was gifted possession and crossed for Billy Clarke who scuffed wide with the goal at his mercy.
The Latics controlled possession throughout, but lacked a cutting edge while Bradford also squandered a series of chances on the break.
Wigan finally broke the deadlock 10 minutes from time, as substitute Haris Vuckic beat Nathan Clarke to a loose ball and rounded the goalkeeper to tuck it away from a tight angle from two yards out.
Bradford responded with a treble substitution, but hardly threatened as Wigan claimed their first win in four.
