Burnley 1 - 1 Wolves: Burnley denied by Danny Batth as Wolves pinch a point at Turf Moor

Burnley were denied a seventh straight league win as Danny Batth headed home at the death to earn Wolves a 1-1 draw at Turf Moor.

Leaders Burnley looked set to open up a six-point lead at the top of the Sky Bet Championship when Sam Vokes netted his fourth goal in three games in the second half.

But in stoppage time Batth headed home substitute Nathan Byrne's corner for just his second goal of the season to give Wolves a point.

The first half at Turf Moor was goalless and uninspiring as Burnley dominated possession and created the bulk of the chances but could find no way through a resolute Wolves defence.

The Clarets went close early on when Andre Gray stretched but just could not reach a low cross from strike partner Vokes.

Wolves responded with Kortney Hause seeing a towering header blocked by Ben Mee after he met a tempting cross from Jed Wallace.

Experienced Clarets midfielder Joey Barton fluffed a decent chance midway through the half. He charged in to meet a loose ball after Matt Lowton's cross was only half-cleared, but blazed wildly over the top.

Lowton was the provider of another smart cross in the 35th minute. He found Vokes in the Wolves box, but the Clarets dangerman uncharacteristically volleyed over from close range.

Vokes also found space in the box a couple of minutes later, but could only steer a weak shot wide of Carl Ikeme's goal.

It was centre-back Mee who came to the Clarets' rescue again in the 35th minute when he was acrobatic in clearing George Saville's shot from a position almost on the line.

Jeremy Helan also saw an angled strike deflected into the side-netting as Wolves ended the first period positively.

The theme continued into the start of the second half, with Wolves opening purposefully.

Michal Zyro found space just inside the Burnley box, but saw his fierce shot blocked by Michael Keane.

At the other end the hosts hit back with Vokes scuffing a shot meekly wide after he had pounced on an error by Dominic Iorfa.

Back came Kenny Jackett's gutsy Wolves, and after a smart move down the left Wallace fired in an acrobatic volley which Tom Heaton saved well.

The woodwork saved Burnley just before the hour mark. Helan found Jack Price in the centre of the Clarets half, and he cracked a sweet shot against the foot of a post from 25 yards.

As the visitors continued to press, Conor Coady lashed a half-volley over the top from 15 yards.

Shortly after Wolves had seemingly run out of steam, Burnley broke the deadlock after 68 minutes.

And it was a routine strike from Vokes, rising highest to head home Barton's cross as he registered his 14th goal of the season.

Saville missed a great chance to level for Wolves with 10 minutes to go when he dragged a shot wide from 15 yards.

But with 90 minutes on the clock Batth made no mistake to deny the hosts another win, although Burnley are unbeaten in 15 games.
