Newport County vs Bristol Rovers - Jake Gosling unable to face parent club as Newport take on Bristol Rovers

Posted Friday, March 18, 2016 by PA

Newport will be without Jake Gosling when they host Bristol Rovers.

The Gibraltar winger is on loan from Rovers and is therefore unable to face his parent club.

Boss Warren Feeney hopes forward John-Christophe Ayina will be fit after he missed the goalless draw against Hartlepool with a knock.

Defender Ben Davies could also be available after Preston's attempt to recall him ran into complications over his international clearance.

On-loan Rovers striker Oliver McBurnie is in contention to make his first start against opponents he played three games for earlier in the season.

McBurnie scored a hat-trick on his Newport debut in November while on loan from Swansea, but he has made only two substitute appearances for Rovers so far with his chances limited by a viral infection.

But the 19-year-old, who has had his first proper training sessions at the club this week, is now fit to challenge Matty Taylor, Jermaine Easter, Billy Bodin and Ellis Harrison for one of the striking spots as promotion-chasing Rovers seek a fifth straight win.

Midfielder Lee Mansell should shrug off a groin problem to feature, but the Pirates are again set to be without injured trio Rory Gaffney, Stuart Sinclair and Liam Lawrence.
