Sheffield Wed. vs Charlton Athletic - Barry Bannan banned for Owls

Posted Friday, March 18, 2016 by PA

Sheffield Wednesday will be without Barry Bannan after they failed in their appeal against the midfielder's dismissal in last week's win at Nottingham Forest.

Bannan was shown a straight red card for his second-half challenge on Eric Lichaj and starts a three-match ban.

Head coach Carlos Carvalhal is hoping Sam Hutchinson can overcome illness in time to return to midfield, while Lewis McGugan and Alex Lopex are in contention.

Carvalhal, who has no major new injury worries, could recall defenders Michael Turner and Jack Hunt, plus forwards Marco Matias and Lucas Joao.

Charlton skipper Johnnie Jackson is back in training after a month out injured and will be assessed.

But Chris Solly is a doubt with an ankle problem, Stephen Henderson has a finger injury and Igor Vetokele is still struggling with groin trouble.

On-loan Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo serves the second game of his three-match ban following his red card at MK Dons last week.

Patrick Bauer and Ahmed Kashi are set to miss out again through injury.
