Oldham Athletic AFC 1 - 0 Blackpool: Oldham jump above Blackpool thanks to narrow win
Posted Wednesday, March 16, 2016 by PA
Oldham earned a 1-0 victory against Blackpool to leapfrog the Seasiders in the League One relegation zone.
Midfielder Matt Palmer grabbed the crucial goal for John Sheridan's Latics as Blackpool's poor run stretched to eight games without a win
Oldham went closest to scoring in a drab first half, with Anthony Gerrard volleying over the bar and Palmer's 20-yard drive testing Blackpool keeper Colin Doyle.
Blackpool created a chance straight after the break, but Oldham keeper Joel Coleman was able to make a comfortable save from Brad Potts.
Oldham threatened again when Curtis Main chased down a pass from Aaron Amadi-Holloway and unleashed a 16-yard shot which was well parried by Doyle.
The breakthrough came after 53 minutes when Amadi-Holloway neatly teed up Palmer, who found space eight yards out to crash an angled shot into the top corner.
Blackpool could have scored a quick equaliser as Tom Aldred headed over the bar from a good position.
But the visitors offered little up front and Jonathan Forte almost doubled Oldham's lead with a glancing header.
