Oxford United 4 - 0 Dagenham and Redbridge: Kemar Roofe steals the show with a hat-trick for Oxford

Kemar Roofe took his season's tally to 25 goals with a silky hat-trick as second-placed Oxford United boosted their promotion hopes by battering basement boys Dagenham 4-0 at the Kassam Stadium.

Roofe opened the scoring on 15 minutes with a right-footed finish from 16 yards after a fine move involving Alex MacDonald and Liam Sercombe.

And the former West Brom player effectively killed off the contest by running on to George Waring's clever pass and then slotting low past Daggers keeper Liam O'Brien in the 50th minute.

After Danny Hylton shot against the bar just moments after coming on as a sub, MacDonald headed in number three from Hylton's right-wing cross.

With the U's totally dominating, Roofe completed his hat-trick from another smart low finish in the 86th minute.

Matthew Cash and Dominic Hyam did force United keeper Benji Buchel into saves in the second half, but the Daggers spent most of the game having to defend.

For Oxford it was the perfect response after their home defeat by Leyton Orient at the weekend.

But Dagenham, who have won just one of their last 12 games, are now in a parlous position, well adrift and with just nine games left.
