Substitute Jonathan de Guzman fired Carpi to a vital 2-1 victory over Serie A relegation rivals Frosinone.
The Dutch midfielder dragged the promoted side to within two points of safety with his 90th-minute penalty at the Stadio Alberto Braglia.
Carpi had taken the lead through Raffaele Bianco in the 27th minute, but Frosinone levelled with Federico Dionisi's close-range finish on 77 minutes.
When Marco Crimi was fouled in the visitors' box, De Guzman stunned the travelling fans by converting a spot-kick on the stroke of full-time.
Carpi are now one point behind Frosinone, who are another point behind 17th-placed Palermo.
