Shrewsbury Town 2 - 2 Scunthorpe United: Shrewsbury rescue stoppage-time Scunthorpe point

Improving Shrewsbury rescued a stoppage-time point as they stretched their unbeaten run in League One to seven games with a 2-2 draw against Scunthorpe.

With time almost up, substitute Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro's cross from the left found its way in, the presence of team-mate Andy Mangan in the six-yard box appearing to distract goalkeeper Luke Daniels.

Shrewsbury started brightly and Kyle Vassell was unable to accept an early chance when he fired over with just Daniels to beat.

Abu Ogogo then saw a 20-yard drive deflected just wide before the hosts' pressure told with a 21st-minute breakthrough.

Daniels, under pressure, dropped a corner from Shaun Whalley and Crystal Palace loanee Sullay Kaikai was on hand to smash the loose ball to the top corner from six yards out.

Shrewsbury were close to doubling their advantage when Nat Knight-Percival's header from Whalley's corner was nodded off the line by Conor Townsend.

Scunthorpe's first-half chances fell to Paddy Madden but the top scorer was twice denied by sharp saves from Mark Halstead before he volleyed an inviting cross from Murray Wallace wide.

Scunthorpe equalised in the 69th minute when Luke Williams set up fellow sub Kyle Wootton to fire past Halstead from 12 yards.

Then the visitors moved in front in the 78th minute as Madden intercepted an underhit backpass from Mat Sadler and coolly drilled in his 19th goal of the season.

But Shrewsbury kept pushing and were finally rewarded with a late leveller which lifts them nine points clear of the relegation zone.
