Leverkusen: Season over for Boenisch
Bayer Leverkusen have been left to curse their rotten luck with injuries following confirmation that Sebastian Boenisch will not be returning to action this season.

The 29-year-old full-back missed the 2-0 defeat at Villarreal in the Europa League last-16 on Thursday after tearing a thigh ligament in training prior to the first-leg clash.

Leverkusen head coach Roger Schmidt has already lost defender Roberto Hilbert to a broken collarbone and midfielder Kevin Kampl to a broken leg in recent weeks, with the club now announcing that Boenisch will join the duo on the sidelines for an extended spell.

Schmidt is also without Christoph Kramer for the visit of Hamburg in the Bundesliga on Sunday after the midfielder sustained whiplash in a collision with Villarreal defender Antonio Rukavina in midweek.

A statement on the club's official website read: "The defender tore a ligament in his left thigh in the final pre-match training session in Villarreal. That means Boenisch is sidelined for the rest of the current campaign."
