Portsmouth vs Newport County - Smith and McNulty battle for Pompey start

Posted Friday, March 11, 2016 by PA

Strikers Michael Smith and Marc McNulty will battle it out to start for Portsmouth when they face Newport at Fratton Park.

Smith got the nod from Pompey boss Paul Cook in Tuesday's 3-1 victory at Accrington, but McNulty will be pushing to come back in for the Sky Bet League Two clash.

Teenage star Conor Chaplin was not called upon from the bench once again and the attacker will hope to be involved this weekend as Pompey step up their promotion push.

Goalkeeper Brian Murphy remains sidelined with a calf injury.

On-loan Cardiff midfielder Tommy O'Sullivan is set to go straight into action for Newport.

O'Sullivan, who spent over two months on loan at Rodney Parade at the end of last year, rejoined County on Thursday and will stay with the Exiles until May 7.

The 21-year-old made 13 appearances for Newport in his first spell, scoring once.

Medy Elito will be available after serving the second and final match of the suspension he picked up for getting sent off against Crawley.
