Basel vs Sevilla - Sergio Escudero knows Sevilla must overcome poor away form

Defending champions Sevilla will hope to overcome their poor away form when they visit Basle in the Europa League on Thursday evening.

Despite winning 19 of 22 home fixtures in all competitions - Juventus, Real Madrid and Barcelona are among those they have defeated - they are yet to win away from the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in the Primera Division or Europe this season.

"It's odd that we haven't won a single away match," defender Sergio Escudero told uefa.com ahead of Thursday's fixture at St. Jakob-Park, which is scheduled to stage the competition's final.

"It's difficult to explain because we're trying everything but we still can't win."

It will do little to inspire confidence that Basle last lost at home in November, but Sevilla manager Unai Emery has a near fully-fit squad from which to choose, with Nicolas Pareja his only confirmed absentee and fellow defender Grzegorz Krychowiak a doubt.

Basle forward Breel Embolo will miss out through suspension owing to the red card he was given during their recent 2-1 win over St Etienne, while Andraz Sporar, Jean-Paul Boetius and Manuel Akanji are all out through injury. Birkir Bjarnason and Tomas Vaclik are doubts.

"We are dreaming of winning the Europa League again," Escudero added.

"We have a great squad, great individual players and we have what it takes to compete in any competition.

"We hope to return to Basle later this season for the final. It would be a dream to win the Europa League again, but we are taking things one step at a time.

"We always work hard to win, regardless of whether we play at home or away, but the results have not been going our way in away matches. But we are desperate to win away from home as well to cap our good run of form."
