Luca Rigoni eased Genoa's relegation fears with a goal that secured a vital 1-0 Serie A victory over Empoli.
The Rossoblu dominated free-falling Empoli across 90 minutes at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris but only managed to score once, with midfielder Rigoni breaking the deadlock by converting Alessio Cerci's pass shortly after the break.
Empoli missed easy chances to notch through Piotr Zielinski, who blasted wide of an empty net, and Levan Mchedlidze, who hit the post after the hour mark.
A fourth-straight defeat leaves Empoli mired in mid-table mediocrity while Genoa are five points clear of the bottom three.
