Newport County 1 - 0 Wycombe Wanderers: Newport striker Scott Boden continues scoring streak to see off Wycombe

Scott Boden continued his excellent form in front of goal to give Newport a 1-0 win over Wycombe.

Boden grabbed his sixth in as many games after 25 minutes to lift the Exiles 11 points clear of the Sky Bet League Two relegation places.

Alex Rodman should have put the home side in front after just four minutes but he dragged his effort wide.

Luke O'Nien went close for the visitors with a superb volley from the edge of the box that narrowly missed the top corner.

But less than 60 seconds later Newport were in front when John Ayina burst down the left and picked out Boden for a simple finish from six yards.

The visitors made a bright start after the break but were almost caught on the counter attack when Boden crossed for Yan Klukowski but his diving header was brilliantly saved.

County goalkeeper Joe Day made a fine stop with his chest to deny Rowan Liburd after an hour and the striker went even closer five minutes later when he smashed the crossbar.
