Bradford AFC 1 - 2 Colchester United: Darren Ambrose scored twice to bring Colchester's winless run to and end

Darren Ambrose scored twice as rock-bottom Colchester ended their club-record 19-game winless streak with a 2-1 Sky Bet League One victory at Bradford.

Wes Thomas' 17th-minute strike put play-off chasing Bradford in front but the visitors levelled six minutes later through Ambrose, whose second-half effort earned the U's their first league win since October.

The Bantams began brightly and were twice denied by Elliot Parish as the U's goalkeeper saved Thomas' left-footed shot with his foot before regaining his feet to grab James Hanson's header.

Hanson then fired Kyel Reid's cross wide but the hosts did not have to wait long for the goal their start merited, Josh Cullen pouncing on an error by Kane Vincent-Young and crossing for Thomas to finish with the slightest of touches.

Colchester responded positively and were back on level terms when Chris Porter nodded a cross down to Ambrose who hit a well-struck volley across Ben Williams and into the bottom corner.

George Moncur curled a 25-yard strike against the post and then saw another shot deflected onto the bar before Colchester deservedly hit the front after 57 minutes.

Owen Garvan's header found Ambrose in acres of space in the box and the experienced midfielder drilled home what proved to be the winner as Colchester completed the double over Bradford.
