Sampdoria 2 - 0 Frosinone: Sampdoria pull clear of Serie A drop zone with victory over Frosinone

Vincenzo Montella's Sampdoria pulled five points clear of the Serie A drop zone after securing a 2-0 home win over relegation rivals Frosinone.
The promoted southerners would have escaped the bottom three with victory at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris but Fernando's deflected goal just before half-time poured cold water on their survival bid.
Later, with 20 minutes remaining in Genoa, Fabio Quagliarella confirmed Samp's first win in nine attempts by scoring his second goal for the club.
Frosinone keeper Nicola Leali had produced a superb save to keep out Quagliarella's original attempt but could do nothing about the subsequent tap-in.
