Peterborough United 1 - 2 Swindon: Redemption for Michael Doughty as Swindon extend winning run

Posted Sunday, February 28, 2016 by PA

Michael Doughty went from villain to hero as in-form Swindon swooped for a 2-1 success at free-falling Peterborough.

On-loan Doughty conceded the first-half penalty from which Town fell behind, earned the free-kick from which they levelled and then fired a late winner.

Doughty barged over Marcus Maddison, who also converted the 12th minute spot-kick to put Posh on top - but it all changed after the break.

Nicky Ajose levelled in exquisite style four minutes into the second period as his set-piece strike flew past debutant Posh goalkeeper Stu Moore after Doughty had been dragged down by Martin Samuelsen.

It was Ajose's sixth goal in three games and 20th of the season and arrived against one of his former clubs.

Posh substitute Tom Nichols missed a golden chance to put the hosts back ahead when steering a Harry Toffolo cross against a post, and Gaby Zakuani then saw his headed strike from a Maddison corner ruled out for a foul.

But the contest was settled moments later as Doughty arrowed a left-footed shot into the far corner with seven minutes to go.

It extended Swindon's winning run to three games as they climbed above a Posh side losing a sixth successive league match.
