Greenock Morton 0 - 1 Falkirk: John Baird boosts Bairns to victory at Morton

Posted Sunday, February 21, 2016 by PA

John Baird's 16th goal of the season was enough to earn Falkirk a 1-0 victory at Morton.

Will Vaulks saw a deflected effort go just the wrong side of the post early on but Falkirk did not have to wait too much longer for the opener, Baird taking advantage of a defensive mistake to finish past Derek Gaston on 27 minutes.

Vaulks rattled the bar with a shot as Falkirk piled on the pressure before half-time but Morton improved after the interval and saw Declan McManus have a goal ruled out on the hour mark.

Baird was denied a second by a brilliant save from Gaston but it mattered little as Falkirk got the three points they needed to keep the pressure on Rangers and Hibernian at the top of the Ladbrokes Championship.
