Oxford United 1 - 2 Accrington Stanley: Ten-man Accrington stun Oxford

Ten-man Accrington snatched a late 2-1 victory over third-placed Oxford at the Kassam Stadium to give their promotion hopes a massive boost.

After centre-half Tom Davies was sent off with seven minutes to go for his second yellow card, fourth-placed Stanley could have been forgiven for holding on to what they had at 1-1.

But Scott Brown advanced to drive in a low shot from 15 yards on 87 minutes to give them a win their second-half showing deserved.

For stuttering Oxford, it was a sixth home game without a win in all competitions.

Kemar Roofe gave the U's a 29th-minute lead with his 20th goal of the season after getting the faintest of touches at the near post to Chris Maguire's low shot from the left.

But Accrington hit back inside 30 seconds of the second half with a header from Billy Kee that beat Benji Buchel at the goalkeeper's left post.

Maguire had been unlucky earlier with a 25-yard free-kick that smashed against the bar.

Sean McConville also struck the crossbar for Accrington with an angled shot after Buchel failed to punch clear.

Stanley, with the wind at their backs, dominated the second period with both Piero Mingoia and Kee seeing well-struck shots saved.

Davies was dismissed on 83 minutes for body-checking Callum O'Dowda - his second yellow card, but Accrington dug deep to claim three crucial points.
