Cambridge United 3 - 1 York City: Cambridge take York back to school

Posted Sunday, February 21, 2016 by PA

York's mini-revival ended with a 3-1 Sky Bet League Two defeat at Cambridge.

The hosts went ahead after 10 minutes when Jimmy Spencer nodded home after goalkeeper Scott Flinders had misjudged Ryan Haynes' cross, moments after Michael Coulson had thumped the crossbar from distance for the visitors.

It was 2-0 after 26 minutes when Harrison Dunk's corner was volleyed in by Josh Coulson, and he could have scored again but failed to make a proper contact from Ryan Ledson's whipped delivery.

James Berrett brought York back into the game seven minutes later with a brilliant finish across Will Norris into the top corner after Haynes had conceded possession to him.

After half-time Ben Williamson curled an effort just wide and Flinders saved well from Dunk after cutting inside, before Williamson made it 3-1 on the hour, rolling the ball home after Flinders failed to hold Spencer's low drive.

The U's could even afford to miss a 77th minute penalty, Luke Berry chipping well over the bar after Dave Winfield climbed over Leon Legge.
