Vincent Kompany warns that Manchester City should not be written off

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has sent a warning to the club's title rivals by telling The Sun that they will recover from their recent loss of momentum.

City have yielded ground at the top of the table in the first half of February by losing back-to-back games at home to fellow title competitors Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur.

Those defeats have left them six points adrift of the summit, but Kompany was quick to remind other clubs that City have been written off too early in the past.

He told The Sun: "We need to take some positives out of the performance against Tottenham and, as I said before, nobody is allowed to give up on anything.

"It’s a set-back but we wouldn’t know our personal history well if we didn’t expect to kick on from here. This Premier League is crazy and that’s why we’re just not going to give up.

"We need all our experience and character now. It will be a tough league for us but it will be a tough league for everyone else as well."

In 2012 Roberto Mancini's City side were eight points off the top with just six matches to go but rallied while their rivals faltered to pip Manchester United to the title on the final day of the season.

Two years later, the Citizens were nine points adrift at one point, but made the most of games in hand to launch a late revival and take home a second Premier League trophy in three seasons.

However, Manuel Pellegrini's side must now turn their attentions away from the league campaign to an FA Cup fifth round clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

They then face a long journey to Ukraine to face Dynamo Kiev in the first league of their Champions League last-16 tie the following Wednesday.
