BT Sport pundit Harry Redknapp has claimed that it is a "done deal" that Jose Mourinho will take charge of Manchester United.
The former Chelsea boss has been heavily linked with the managerial position at Old Trafford amidst the uncertainty over the future of the current incumbent Louis van Gaal.
Redknapp, who managed the likes of Tottenham and West Ham, believes that it is a certainty that Mourinho will end up at United.
Redknapp told Sirius XM (via Manchester Evening News): "It hasn't worked out at all for Louis van Gaal at Manchester United. It's been a disaster for him. No doubt about that. From the people I know who are in the know, it seems Jose Mourinho to United is a done deal."
United have struggled for consistency under van Gaal's tutelage this season and have been particularly ineffective in an attacking sense, scoring just 33 Premier League goals.
Van Gaal has been powerless to prevent his side from slipping to some hugely frustrating defeats this season, with the loss to Sunderland last weekend adding to the Dutchman's woes.
United have defended well at times- they have averaged 40 defensive actions per game in the Premier League this season- but their squad is certainly in need of an overhaul and it appears increasingly likely that Mourinho will be the man to oversee those sweeping changes.
The 53-year-old has been out of work since he was dismissed by Chelsea in December, but he will surely be eager to make a return to the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Man United's next game sees them face Midtjylland in the Europa League on Thursday.
