Livingston 0 - 0 Hibernian FC: Hibernian fail to take chance to close ground on Championship leaders Rangers

Second-placed Hibernian missed the chance to cut the gap on Ladbrokes Championship leaders Rangers after they were held to a frustrating goalless draw at struggling Livingston.

Despite plenty of pressure, Alan Stubbs' men could not find a winner in West Lothian and so remain eight points behind leaders Rangers, who earlier scraped a 1-1 draw at bottom club Alloa.

With the snow falling, Livingston almost snatched a lead inside the first minute when the ball was turned goalwards through a crowded six-yard box by Scott Pittman before Paul Hanlon hacked clear.

Hibs - who had lost just once in 25 matches and will take on Ross County in the League Cup final next month - slowly gained momentum.

Anthony Stokes' 18-yard drive was deflected behind before Livingston goalkeeper Marc McCallum denied Jason Cummings at point-blank range.

The visitors were denied again on 55 minutes as Chris Dagnall's towering back post header after Hanlon's ball in from the left was hacked off the line by Ben Gordon.

With 20 minutes left, Livingston, second bottom of the table, came close to breaking the deadlock when a curling shot from Jordan White hit the top of the crossbar.

Substitute Gary Glen could have won it for the home side late on, but glanced a free header wide.

In stoppage time, Hibs defender Lewis Stevenson got away down the left channel to cut into the penalty area, only to slice his shot wide.
