Lazio missed the chance to leapfrog Empoli and Sassuolo in the Serie A standings as they were held to a goalless draw by Genoa.

The point leaves Stefano Pioli's men in ninth, while the home side moved up a spot into 15th.

The recalled Danilo Cataldi went close in the fifth minute and midway through the first half Stefano Mauri's header struck the crossbar as Lazio pushed for an opener.

Down at the other end, Leonardo Pavoletti and Alessio Cerci tried their luck to no avail, while Lazio substitute Patric sent an attempt over.

Ezequiel Munoz's header was kept out by Federico Marchetti and efforts from Lazio pair Felipe Anderson and Keita failed to find the net as the spoils were shared.
