Paris Saint Germain 3 - 1 Lorient: No stopping Paris St Germain as they set unbeaten record with win over Lorient

Paris St Germain set a new record of 33 unbeaten Ligue 1 games after beating Lorient 3-1 at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday.

Goals from Edison Cavani, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Layvin Kurzawa lifted Laurent Blanc's men 24 points clear at the top of the table ahead of their trip to Marseille on Sunday.

But they were made to work hard by their opponents, who briefly drew level through Raphael Guerreiro and had their chances to make PSG's march to history a little more difficult.

PSG certainly started with confidence after winning all but one of their 10 home games so far this season scoring 34 games and conceding just seven in the process.

And in a sign that Blanc can do no wrong at the moment, it was the recalled Cavani who took just six minutes to set his side on their way to yet another success.

The Uruguayan, recalled to the starting line-up in place of Angel Di Maria, latched onto a fine Ibrahimovic through-ball before rounding goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte to slide his side in front.

Ibrahimovic forced a fine save out of Lecomte from a long-range free-kick less than two minutes later, then Marquinhos flashed a header wide from a corner.

The visitors snatched a shock equaliser against the run of play in the 19th minute with a superb finish from Guerreiro.

After picking up a neat ball from Abdul Majeed Waris, the Portuguese midfielder slammed a rising shot past the helpless Kevin Trapp in the PSG goal to bring his side back into contention.

And Lorient almost capped a stunning turnaround two minutes later when Waris got the better of Marquinhos in the box before firing an angled effort into the side-netting.

Blanc's men are not champions-elect for nothing, however, and they came back firing with Jean Kevin Augustin bringing another brave save out of Lecomte.

Lecomte continued to have to be alert to counter the threat of Ibrahimovic and as the first period drew to its conclusion it was the hosts who were once again beginning to assert control.

Cavani came close to his second with a lob shortly after the restart, then PSG reclaimed the lead when Ibrahimovic nipped in to coolly convert a cross by Kurzawa on 55 minutes.

Lorient substitute Jimmy Cabot was denied an equaliser in the 65th minute when his effort was ruled out for offside, and four minutes later the visitors' challenge was effectively over as Kurzawa volleyed PSG's third past Lecomte.

Lorient continued to have chances to reduce the deficit but they also had Lecomte to thank for making late saves to deny Cavani and substitute Di Maria further goals.
