City announced last week that the Spaniard would be leaving Bayern Munich to take up his new role at the Etihad this summer.
And with City’s hierarchy set to give Guardiola a healthy spending budget in his first transfer window, the former Barcelona boss will be keen to spend big on a host of exciting talent.
And according to the Daily Star, Sane is top of Guardiola’s wishlist.
Arsenal and Liverpool were both linked with the 20-year-old during the January transfer window, that saw them keeping tabs on his performances.
The attacking midfielder has scored five goals for the German outfit this term and Schalke are keen to keep hold of their star man.
Sane, who is valued at £40m by his current club, is contracted with Andre Breitenreiter’s side until 2019.
But Schalke face a tough fight on their hands to keep hold of him, with Guardiola a keen admirer of Sane.
Last year Guardiola said: “Leroy is a huge talent and I can only congratulate Germany on having a talent like him.”
