Swindon 0 - 1 Barnsley: Sam Winnall on target again as Barnsley sink Swindon

Posted Sunday, January 31, 2016 by PA

Sam Winnall struck for the ninth time in six League One matches to secure Barnsley a 1-0 victory at Swindon.

In a match of few chances and limited quality, Winnall popped up with less than two minutes remaining to thrash home Josh Scowen's right-wing cross and inflict defeat on new Swindon manager Luke Williams for the first time.

Home goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux kept his side level at the break, twice saving with his legs from Marley Watkins and Conor Hourihane, while the hosts failed to manage a shot on target before half-time.

Swindon forward Jon Obika forced a save from Tykes keeper Adam Davies in the 54th minute while Fabien Robert's ambitious volley from 25 yards was easily claimed by the visiting stopper as the Robins fired their first blank in Wiltshire since a 1-0 defeat to Burton on September 19.

Winnall banked a sixth successive league win for Barnsley in the 88th minute but Swindon still had a chance to level, with Michael Doughty's goalbound shot unintentionally blocked by team-mate Jeremy Balmy in stoppage time.
