Black Cats loan Coates to Sporting

Sporting CP have completed the signing of Sebastian Coates on loan from Sunderland until the end of the season.

The Black Cats announced the departure of the former Liverpool defender on a six-month loan deal, with a view to a permanent transfer.

The arrival of Lamine Kone from Lorient had paved the way for Coates to leave the Stadium of Light.

A statement from the Wearsiders read: "Sunderland AFC defender Sebastian Coates has joined Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon on loan for the rest of the season.

"The 25-year old Uruguayan heads to the Portuguese capital city where he could make his debut in this weekend's home game against Academica."

Coates, who has 17 caps for Uruguay since making his debut in 2011, will look to get his career back on track after once being tipped as a future captain for his country.
