Paulo Futre: Cristiano Ronaldo will leave Real Madrid

Former Portugal winger Paulo Futre believes Cristiano Ronaldo will leave Real Madrid in the summer.

Ronaldo has been strongly linked with moves to Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain in recent months.

Madrid were said to be open to letting Ronaldo leave but their recent transfer ban has reportedly complicated matters. Futre insisted, however, that Ronaldo will look to leave Madrid in pursuit of more money.

"The big question is whether he will stay with Madrid or leave for PSG or Manchester United and I believe he will leave,” Futre said.

"I think a lot of things will have to change in order to convince him to stay. It is the last opportunity for him and Jorge Mendes to negotiate a big contract somewhere in Europe. I think Madrid will have to either win a major title like the Champions League or La Liga, or risk losing Cristiano at the end of the season.”

Ronaldo is regarded as a Man United legend and his return would be a hugely popular move among supporters.

It is hard to look past the romanticism of his potential return but there is a question mark over how long he has left at the highest level. Although he looks after himself, at 30 years old, he is not getting any younger. It will be interesting to see if United firm up their interest in the summer.
