Manchester United could hijack Arsenal’s pursuit of Marseille forward Michy Batshuayi, according to reports.
The Belgian has attracted interest from several clubs including West Ham and Tottenham.
And the Daily Mail claim the Red Devils were one of several teams to send scouts to watch the 22-year-old in Marseille’s recent 1-1 draw with Lyon.
Batshuayi is contracted at the Ligue 1 club until the summer of 2020.
United are reportedly preparing a £20million bid for Wolfsburg defender Ricardo Rodriguez.
The Swiss international has been linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks and The Sun claim Van Gaal is ready to offer £20m to secure his services.
The report claims the Dutch boss has sent scouts to watch him play and the 23-year-old remains a priority target for the Red Devils.
Real Madrid are also said to be keeping tabs on him.
United are not giving up their chase for Pep Guardiola, according to reports.
The Spaniard will step down from his position at Bayern Munich in the summer and his next port of call is expected to be the Premier League.
Manchester City are favourites to land him but the Daily Mail claim executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is still keen to lure him to the red side of Manchester.
Van Gaal’s future remains uncertain following their disappointing 1-0 defeat to Southampton on Saturday.
