Liverpool are reportedly interested in Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel but have made no progress in their attempt to buy Alex Teixeira.
Simon Mignolet has only recently signed a new five-year contract at Anfield, but Jurgen Klopp appears keen to sign some top-class competition for the Belgian having also been linked with Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Stoke City’s Jack Butland.
According to the Sunday People, the Reds have enquired about the possible availability of Schmeichel but been informed that Leicester will not consider selling the Denmark No.1 in the current transfer window.
Liverpool are expected to try again in the summer, though, after Jurgen Klopp was again criticial of his side’s set-piece defending following Saturday’s 5-4 win at Norwich City.
The Merseysiders’ hopes of landing Teixeira, meanwhile, are receding, according to the Sunday Mirror, with Shakhtar Donetsk refusing to budge on their £37.6million valuation of the attacking midfielder having rejected an initial £24.6million bid for the 26-year-old.
Liverpool are still hoping to strike a compromise deal of around £30m, plus add-ons depending on Teixeira’s future success at Anfield, it is claimed, but Shakhtar are said to be confident their valuation will be met, whether this month or in the summer.
A Liverpool ‘insider’ is quoted as saying: “We haven’t walked away from it, but the valuations of both clubs remain far apart.”
The same newspaper says Liverpool may move for Ter Stegen this month, fearing competition for the £20million-valued goalkeeper will increase come the summer.
