Burton Albion FC 1 - 2 Shrewsbury Town: High-flying Burton slip to shock Shrewsbury defeat

High-flying Burton suffered a shock 2-1 defeat at home to struggling Shrewsbury.

Damien McCrory gave the home side a deserved lead but Andy Mangan levelled for Town and substitute Shaun Walley completed the smash-and-grab in the third minute of added time.

Full-back McCrory gave Burton the lead with a 20-yard left-foot screamer into the bottom corner in the 18th minute.

The hosts had other chances either side of the Irishman's third goal of the season but goalkeeper Jayson Leutwiler produced a finger-tip save to deny Tom Naylor and Stuart Beavon's glancing header flew narrowly wide.

Dutchman Nasser El Khayati also went close with a snapshot just before the break.

The visitors rallied to level through Mangan's scrambled goal in the 52nd minute, with Burton goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin complaining he had been pushed as he tried to claim Ian Black's corner kick.

Leutwiler pushed a Phil Edwards shot around a post and substitute Mason Bennett headed over from close range.

The hosts laid siege late on but it was the visitors who snatched victory when Whalley streaked away to hand Clough the first defeat of his second spell as Burton boss.
