Southend United vs Coventry - Sam McQueen could make Southend bow against Coventry

Southend are expected to hand a debut to midfielder Sam McQueen after the 20-year-old signed on loan from Southampton ahead of the clash with Coventry at Roots Hall.

The Shrimpers ended a three-match losing streak when battling to a goalless draw at Peterborough, where goalkeeper Daniel Bentley saved a stoppage-time penalty.

Centre-back Adam Thompson has been struggling with a groin problem this week, so will be assessed along with captain John White, now training again after a hamstring injury.

Left-back Ben Coker remains sidelined as he recovers from an operation on a lower abdomen tear.

New signings Stephen Hunt and Andy Rose could make their Coventry debuts.

Veteran forward Hunt has not played a match since May but impressed Coventry boss Tony Mowbray with his performance for the Under-21s on Monday.

Rose is getting up to speed with the English game following his move from Seattle Sounders and also comes into contention.

Another new signing, Martin Lorentzson, must wait for his bow as he continues to recover from a muscle injury while Gael Bigirimana is in line to replace John Fleck, who serves a two-game ban for collecting 10 yellow cards.
