Bolton Wanderers vs Milton Keynes Dons - Shola Ameobi set for final Bolton appearance

Posted Friday, January 22, 2016 by PA

Shola Ameobi is set to start his Bolton send-off against MK Dons at the Macron Stadium.

The ex-Newcastle striker's short-term deal expires after this contest - and will not be renewed due to lack of funds - and injuries to other forwards means he is the last man standing for boss Neil Lennon.

Gary Madine is a major doubt after coming off against Eastleigh in midweek with a groin strain, Max Clayton (hamstring) and Zach Clough (hip) are not yet ready to return and Emile Heskey (calf) is also unlikely to feature.

Goalkeeper Ben Amos is back from suspension, though, and will replace Paul Rachubka between the sticks but Lennon has lost centre-back David Wheater (hamstring) for at least a month.

MK Dons' problems are mounting ahead of the trip and could be without as many as eight players.

Nicky Maynard and Matthew Upson both sustained hamstring injuries in the FA Cup win against Northampton on Tuesday night while Dean Bowditch is ill and Josh Murphy and Darren Potter (knee) are also struggling to be fit.

Kyle McFadzean is still suspended and on-loan midfielder Rob Hall is ineligible to play against his parent club. On top of all that, Carl Baker is out until March with an ankle injury.

Joe Walsh will start alongside Antony Kay in the centre of defence while the only other fit midfielders available are Daniel Powell, Ben Reeves, Jake Forster-Caskey and Samir Carruthers. Simon Church is most likely to replace Maynard up front.
