Bradford AFC 1 - 0 Oldham Athletic AFC: Bradford scrape past 10-man Oldham

Posted Sunday, January 17, 2016 by PA

Tony McMahon's goal five minutes after half-time enabled Bradford to beat 10-man Oldham 1-0 in their first home league match for more than seven weeks.

Left-back James Meredith's cross to the far post was met by McMahon, who headed the ball into the far corner of the net to settle the match.

However, Bradford had little to spare against a hard-working Oldham side watched by their new manager John Sheridan, returning to the club from Newport following the midweek sacking of David Dunn.

Only a fine diving save from home keeper Ben Williams kept out a close-range flick from Jake Cassidy in the 39th minute but Oldham were reduced to 10 men a minute later when Connor Brown was sent off, 15 minutes after coming on as a substitute for the injured Cameron Dummigan.

Bradford struggled to make their numerical superiority count as James Hanson in particular failed to apply the finishing touches to some neat approach work.

And Williams was forced to block a far-post header from visiting skipper Liam Kelly in stoppage time to preserve the points.
