Shrewsbury Town vs Barnsley - Richie Wellens set to make Shrewsbury debut
Posted Friday, January 15, 2016 by PA
Shrewsbury could hand a debut to Richie Wellens after the midfielder joined them on an 18-month deal.
Former Manchester United trainee Wellens was available having been released by Doncaster this month.
James Wallace could also make his Town bow following his season-long loan switch from Sky Bet League One rivals Sheffield United.
Midfielder James Wesolowski is sidelined for the season with a long-term knee injury.
Barnsley's new loan signing Josh Brownhill could make his debut for the club after joining from Preston.
Brownhill, 20, has arrived for an initial month and may start following the recent departure of Ben Pearson to Preston and fellow midfielder Josh Scowen's knee injury.
Scowen, out since early November, has returned to non-contact training and head coach Lee Johnson hopes to have him available again in two weeks.
Defender Lewin Nyatanga (knee) and striker Marley Watkins (ankle) remain sidelined, while Johnson will assess several other bumps and bruises following last week's 1-1 draw against Fleetwood in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy northern area final.
